IT & Facilities Solutions - Video Solutions
The addition of Datapath to D.Y. Nye Co., suite of products about 5 years ago, has caused our portfolio of video products to expand and include a wide selection of Video Distribution, Digital Signage, and Video System Control solutions. With the advances in technology pertaining to fields such as streaming video, digital signage, distance learning, etc…, corporations are discovering new ways to utilize video within their environment.
D.Y. Nye Co. works with a variety of integrators and manufacturers, thus many corporations look to us to help layout and design their video solutions. Listed below are the manufacturers that we work with and the unique video solutions possible when using their technologies.
Video Distribution
Because of the increasing availability of 1080p, more versatile displays, and other digital media sources knowledge of Video Distribution technology has become critical to a projects success. In addition knowledge of the mediums (VGA, DVI, HDMI, HDSDI, etc...) by which media is delivered and their limitations is also a critical factor when configuring a Content Delivery System.
D.Y. Nye Co. Inc. understands that corporations make significant investments in displays, projectors, digital signage systems, content creations units, and other media stations, however what some fail to realize is that the success of those systems can all hinge upon the precision of the video distribution system. Thus it is important to find a solution that will provide organizations with the return on their investment that they deserve. D.Y. Nye Co., Inc. prides itself on being able to offer its customers a variety of choices when configuring a content delivery system that not only meets their needs will not break the budget. Below are some examples of where Video Distribution can be used along with a diagram of a typical system.
- · Factory Floors
- · Retail Environments
- · Grocery Store Chains
- · Digital Signage
- · Touch Screen Kiosks
- · Classroom environments
- · Hospitality

Digital Signage
Even though Digital Signage has continued to mature as a market over the last 7-years to many organizations the solution has become an enigma, which holds great potential and yet uncertainty in terms of implementation. D.Y. Nye Co. contends that Digital Signage can be broken into two distinct categories;
1. Advertising
2. Internal communication.
Once an organization decides which category they want their signage solution to most resemble they are then able to begin the search for a digital signage solution.
D.Y. Nye Co., Inc offers customers two options for Digital Signage which we like to refer to a simple and enterprise. Our simple solution is manufactured by a group from the UK, Sedao Ltd. (http://www.sedao.co.uk), who has created a Windows based software program which allows users to quickly and easily take different media files (Flash, PowerPoint, Movies, Photos, RSS, etc..) and freely layer them on top of one another to create a signage presentation. Our enterprise solution PADS is more robust than the Sedao solution, and offers users more of a server client solution, which includes options such as database linking, instant emergency messaging, and management for large numbers of displays.
Sedao:
Sedao was founded by professionals from the broadcast industry in order to meet the strong demand for high quality digital signage applications that allowed non-technical, non-artistic users to create post-production quality screen messaging. Sedao products were created with the characteristics of simplicity and affordability in mind, which explains its popularity amongst primary and secondary schools, small retailers, government departments, hotels, and bars.
Sedao’s Digital signage solution has three main components
1. Image Flyer
2. Quick Change
3. SWEP (Sedao Web-Enabled Player)
Each component has a unique function when building a digital signage layout, and although they all worked together, a user is not required to purchase all three in order to construct digital signage.
Image Flyer
Recognized as one of the most flexible and easiest digital signage software to use, Image flyer lets you zone your digital screen to simultaneously play almost any kind of media including Images, movies, live TV, RSS news feeds, HTML (flash) and much, much more.
When compared with other signage solutions, Image Flyer is unique, because it does not require the user to dissect a display into predefined zones, and then define a playlist for each zone. Instead Image Flyer creates screen layouts via layers where each media element lays on top of the previous item. Simply ADD elements to you screen, move them with your left mouse and resize them with your right, giving you virtually unlimited 'floating' media zones.

No hidden extras. Image Flyer contains all the 'big features' (scheduler, touch screen etc) and plays all supported media types as standard. Create a screen containing a live TV feed, text areas, multiple movies, streaming video, news feeds and more for no extra cost.
Image Flyer includes the ability to create a screen in seconds from any number of media elements including
- Movies (.avi, .mpg, .wmv)
- Images (.jpegs, bitmaps, gifs, animated gifs)
- Live Video Input (one only)
- Streaming Video
- Audio
- HTML, Flash
- RSS
- PowerPoint
Other features that are essential for any digital signage system include:
- Network Aware File Usage
- ‘Hot Key’ screens Layout assignment
Advanced features which also come as standard include:
- Time of Day Scheduler
- Anti-plasma burn-in
- Touch Screen capability
Quick Change
Quick Change Project is a portfolio of background templates, banners, filmstrips, and text banners that allows a user to customize and then use in their Image Flyer layout. For example a user may start out with a background that looks like this

Once the user has customized his/her layout they can export it as a still image (bitmap, jpeg, HTML, or GIF) which Image Flyer can use in creating a signage layout.
SWEP (Sedao Web Enabled Player)
The SWEP unit is the third component of the Sedao digital signage solution, and it is designed to capitalizes on the capabilities of Image Flyer and provide users a few more feature sets by combining the Image Flyer software with a robust hardware platform and web-interface software. The result is a turnkey solution that provides the user with all the Image Flyer Capabilities, plus;
- A reliable Player PC platform that is capable of
- 4:3 or 16:9 resolutions
- HD Resolutions
- Portrait or Landscape orientations
- A web interface that allows users to change media within a layout and schedule when a layout is should to play
- Over 50 Image Flyer Layout templates
Web Management
Some organizations are required to use hardware supplied by specific manufacturers, and in order to accommodate those environments we can offer those organizations the web-management software separately, thus allowing them to enjoy the benefits of a SWEP player.
In addition to managing individual Digital Signage players, a user may want to group SWEP players together and manage units via a single interface. By using the Enterprise SWEP management console, users are able to push media, layout files, and schedule files from a central location out target SWEP units. An organization requires only one copy of the Enterprise SWEP management application, and it can be deployed at any geographic location within the LAN.
PADS
In order to offer users a successful enterprise Digital Signage solution a system must have these components
- Centralized Management of displays from a single location (Includes scheduling and delivery of content)
- Multiple tiered user/manager structure
- Audit trail logging
- Database integration
PADS (Public Area Display System) software is an award-winning enterprise digital signage product that can meet those requirements and which contains a bundle of applications suitable for driving large, mission critical installations with thousands of screens. One of PADS systems strongest feature is its database integration feature which many users find perfect for menu boards, interactive directories, flight, bus and train schedules, and don’t take our word for it below is a list of PADS users.

PADS COMPONENTS
The PADS System has three software components
- SignPro Plus Viewer
- SignPro Plus Designer
- SignPro Plus Manager
SignPro Plus Viewer:
SignPro Plus Viewer is the software that is loaded onto the player PC’s which allow the displays to show the presentations created in SignPro Plus Designer.
SignPro Plus Designer
SignPro Plus Designer is usually combined with the SignPro Plus Manager onto a centralized CPU, and it allows users to take different media files (.avi’s, flash, RSS, HTML, etc…) and form their digital signage presentation.
SignPro Plus Manager
Once a user has created a presentation, he/she will need to send the presentation to the appropriate display and schedule its viewing time, SignPro Plus Manager accomplishes both of those tasks for the user.
Video Control Systems
The ability to control multiple audio and video devices from a single interface has always been an attraction, and with the advances in IP technologies more industries are finding unique ways to deploy audio and video solutions within their environment. Aurora Multimedia Corp. is one of market leaders in the field of IP Control systems, and since 1997 they have offered users cost effective solutions built upon a non-proprietary, open source IP Control software that any intermediate level web programmer can use.
The diagram below explains how users can deploy Aurora’s products to manage and control their audio/video devices. By connecting disparate devices to Aurora’s WACI product line via RS232 connections users can then manage and monitor them from single TCP/IP connection over a LAN or WAN.
